"I will remember their sin no more." God's ability to forget the sin of the person who has claimed Jesus Christ as Savior is unique. It is erased from his memory forever when persons are brought back from the exile of alienation from God through Christ. He could do this because it is his nature to love ... "for God so loved the world ..."
Helmut Thielicke said Jesus could forgive, even as he died, because he saw in people "the original divine design, to which they had been unfaithful. His all-knowing and loving eyes penetrated the outer grime and saw them as they really were. He continues, "Loving our enemies, then, does not mean that we are supposed to love the dirt in which the pearl is buried." It will help us to have a forgiving-forgetting nature if we remember that God, in his mercy and by his grace, has forgotten our sins forever.
