Anytime we believe what we read, or what others tell us, we are accepting the witness' testimony. We go to a doctor not knowing anything about the person, but the diplomas and awards hanging on the wall convince us that he will know what he is doing. Rabbi Heschel once said, "Diplomas prove the existence of doctors. But there are no scientific proofs for the existence of God, there are only witnesses and testimonies."
