Appearing prominently in one of our daily newspapers recently was the following item: "EYEWITNESSES NEEDED!" It seems a lady had sustained an injury to one of her arms when a hospital elevator door closed suddenly on it. The lady's attorney was requesting anyone who had witnesses the incident to promptly get in touch with him.
Eyewitnesses provide the ultimate testimony. They have been in the actual presence of the fact and when an eyewitness speaks, contrary opinion is confronted with an insurmountable burden.
Had Jesus of Nazareth become larger in death than he was in life? Was the claim of his return from the grave a happy dream or an addendum to a messianic myth? Simon Peter put the case to rest; "And we are witnesses to all that he did ..." It is beyond rationality that he would have concocted such testimony, only to be later crucified himself upside down on a cross.
Two thousand years later, the resurrection is not on trial. Eyewitnesses have provided the ultimate testimony. Those who would make a case against it are confronted with an insurmountable burden.
