God had revealed glimpses of himself through various persons and events throughout the Old Testament period. But the fullness of what God was like remained a secret until it was revealed in Jesus Christ.
On December 19, 1892 (a good Advent date), Helen Keller wrote a letter to Mr. John Hitz. She told him about the difficulty she was having with a writing assignment, reported on her health, and commented on how books had been her "precious companions." Then she wrote,
