The late Dr. E. Stanley Jones, famous Methodist missionary-evangelist to India and America, visited Russia in the 1930s. He wrote a book upon his return to America entitled Christ's Alternative to Communism. The outline of the book is based on Luke 4:18-19 which is Christ's quotation from Isaiah 61:1-3. There is hardly a page in Dr. Jones' book that was not prophetic of the more than forty years that have passed since it was written. The Christian alternative is:
1) good news to the economically disinherited;
2) good news to the socially and politically disinherited;
3) good news to the physically disinherited;
4) good news to the morally and spintually disinherited;
Said Dr. Jones, "The present order is doomed. Its injustices are breaking it down. But amid the crash of conditions two things remain: a kingdom which I believe is the ultimate order, and a person who I believe is the ultimate person."

We all can profit from reconsidering the words of the prophet Isaiah; the prophet, our Lord Jesus Christ, and a modern prophet, Dr. E Stanley Jones.
