The author James Michener, speaking in Detroit, told a group of senior citizens about an aunt of his who was in her eighties. Never married, Aunt Clara had no children. Her brothers and sisters were gone, and her family now consisted of nephews and nieces. They had a discussion among themselves about what to do with this aunt whom they all loved. They said such things as, "She can't live alone much longer. We better make arrangements for her to go to a care facility."
Mitchner was appointed to talk to his aunt on behalf of all, and to broach the subject of the move. Mitchner visited his aunt, talked a while, and then delicately raised the topic.
She heard him without interruption, but when he stopped talking, she said firmly, "Why, Jimmy, I couldn't possibly go to a rest home right now. You see, I'm going to England next month because there are some things I want to see and do. Maybe when I come back we can talk about it again." And with that, she took off for England and stayed two years.
Jesus told Peter, "We can't stay here on the mountaintop. We have work to do." So back to work they went.
