The avalanche of advances in the fields of astronomy, physics, and biology bears a marvelous link to the message of faith. Look closely at the discoveries of the past two decades. Probe them. They deepen our sense of wonder as we see the finespun balance needed for the miracle of life to have happened at all.
Scientists have now traced the history of our universe to within a fraction of a second of its explosive origin. In the process, they have discovered that if, at the end of the first second, the rate of expansion had been reduced by one part in a trillion, the universe would have collapsed upon itself within a few million years. If the force which binds nuclei together had been a scant two percent larger than it is, there would be no organized matter at all.
Organic molecules are believed to have existed on earth for 3.5 billion years. Given the age of the earth, this leaves only .5 billion years for such molecules to form out of the inorganic sea which bathed the young planet. The chances against such a formation taking place in so short a time are astronomical. And there is now emerging the complex story regarding the development of a habitable atmosphere, and with this, again, the stunning improbabilities that things should have happened the way they did.
Our universe is exquisitely tuned. Its miracle is even greater than its mind-shattering dimensions. In the beginning ... along the way ... at every point ... God!
