Back in 1949 Popular Mechanics magazine got a lot of laughter when it predicted that one day computers might weigh less than 1.5 tons. That prediction, of course, was made at a time when computers weighed several tons, and it took a huge room to house just one computer. But now you can buy a laptop computer that weighs just a few pounds.
In 1946 the head of 20th Century Fox said that television was just a passing fad. He predicted that after about six months the American public would lose interest in television. After all, he said, are not people going to get tired of staring at a plywood box every night?
It's not necessarily easy to make predictions about the future. But Jesus invites us to prepare ourselves for what is to come.
