Being a Christian unfortunately does not prohibit us from doing the wrong thing in the wrong manner. We are admittedly reluctant to deal with these words of Jesus. I recall having a boy, after he had come to have confidence in men, tell me at a church camp, "My father pretends to be one thing in church, praying and everything. But at home he drinks and shouts and mistreats mom and us." This boy was trying to clarify how his father could act one way in church, but the opposite at home.
There are consequences to our beliefs and actions. Once a preacher was preaching that those who do not do right here and are in an authentic relationship with Jesus would gnash their teeth. A wiseacre thought he would have some fun with the preacher and shouted, "What about those who don't have their teeth?" Quickly the preacher responded, "Teeth will be provided."
