Benjamin Franklin was a man...
Illustration
Benjamin Franklin was a man of dedication, faithfulness, and valor. He was a powerful
leader in the early history. Franklin traveled to Europe many times, representing the
colonies. He was the only man who signed all four of the following documents: The
Declaration of Independence, the treaty of alliance with France, the treaty of Paris that
ended the revolution, and the Constitution. He is buried in the old cemetery of Christ
Church in Philadelphia. One would expect this epitaph to be on his grave. It is on many
graves but not on Franklin's. At Easter time in 2007 it bears repeating:
Like the cover of an old book,
Its contents worn out,
And stripped of its lettering and gilding
Lies here food for worms;
But the work shall not be lost
For it will (As he believes) appear once more
In a new more elegant edition,
