Bill and Mary's son, David...

Bill and Mary's son, David, was going camping on his own for the first time. He got busy preparing the "essentials" for his trip: CDs for the car, ice for the cooler, sunscreen, and bug spray. Then he began to toss together the necessities of camping: tent gear, sleeping bag, lawn chair, hatchet, tarps, hammer, pegs, ropes, and wood.
Bill and Mary watched, wondering when David would get around to some other essentials: dish soap, towels, toilet paper ... and food. David hadn't thought much about food -- he just figured he would take some stuff out of the refrigerator. So, the day before the trip, Bill and Mary sat David down and went over the list they used when they went camping. They made out a food list and went with David to the store to stock up.
Ultimately, David's trip went well despite rain, and he had more than enough food, wood, and other supplies to get him through the week.
In a similar way, Christ gives us the "supplies" we need to make it through life until the end.
