The birth of a child...

The birth of a child can be an awesome event in the life of any person. It was 12:05 a.m. The mother-to-be had experienced a long and slow labor. After the twentieth hour, papers had been signed for a Caesarean section. Modern-day monitoring devices to test fetal stress were unknown. Minutes seemed like hours, not only for the expectant mother but also for a seminary student trying to study for a Hebrew test. At 12:15 a.m. an infant's cry penetrated the quiet corridor of the small hospital. Within minutes a nurse announced: "Your wife is fine. You have a beautiful daughter." Tears welled up in the young man's eyes. Christmas was only a week away. Suddenly the message of the incarnation put on flesh and bone. The joyful proclamation of the angels, "Unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord," became personal and real. Awesome! -- Reisen
