The bishop was visiting in a church one Sunday and delivering the sermon. He had begun to preach when a fellow leaned over and whispered to the bishop's wife, who was also seated out in the congregation, "Can you believe how boring this fellow is?" In just a few moments, he leaned over again and whispered, "I don't know how anybody is still awake in here." Then after a few moments, he made another critical remark to the bishop's wife, "How do you suppose this guy ever got to be bishop?"
The wife couldn't take it any longer, and she turned to the gentleman, "Sir, do you know who I am?" The critical worshiper replied that he didn't; whereupon, she explained, "I am the bishop's wife."
There was a long pause in their exchange as the bishop preached on. Finally, the fellow leaned over and asked the lady, "Do you know who I am?"
She said, "No."
He said, "Good."
You need to be careful what you say to strangers because you never know to whom you are speaking.
