Bud shifted in his seat...

Bud shifted in his seat. He always felt uncomfortable with recognition: he preferred to give things anonymously. But giving fourteen million dollars to a hospital ward was impossible to hide. He looked around, trying to focus on the future work of the AIDS wing. He smiled as he imagined that his mother and father would have been proud to see him give so generously. The thought took him back fifty years earlier, when he had been a young boy. His parents did not have much, but they always had enough to help others. One summer day, a young couple with a baby had been stranded on their way out west, and Bud's family had taken them in until they were able to continue on. The Penske family sent Bud's family a Christmas letter every year and never forgot the helping hand they were given. Bud looked up as another speaker came forward. "My name is Mary Penske Black," she began. "My grandparents and mother were taken in by Bud's family almost fifty years ago, and I stand before you today as a doctor dedicated to helping others because of that experience...."
