C. FitzSimons Allison tells of...

C. FitzSimons Allison tells of an automobile accident that occurred in a rural county and the family was taken to a small hospital. Fortunately, the only one who was hurt was a little girl. She had lost a lot of blood and the small hospital did not have the type that was needed for the transfusion. Her younger brother was the only immediate source for the kind of blood she needed.
The doctor suggested that the father tell his son that his sister was quite ill and to ask him if he would give her a transfusion. The little boy was not sure of what was involved, but he did not hesitate for a moment. He was placed on an operating table near his sister. Since he was young and might wiggle around with the needle in his arm, the doctor decided to put him to sleep while the transfusion was in process. As his blood flowed into his sister, her color returned and she began to recover.
Later, as the little boy was waking up, his father said, "Son, I want to thank you for giving some of your blood to your sister." Looking up from his pillow, the child replied, "My blood? I thought I was gonna give my life."
