In a capsule, this rendering of the instituting of the Passover could simply be, "This is the first day of the rest of your life." We have heard this quotation often enough in the last decade to last us many more. It's meaning is true for us who look back to our memorials and find "strength and help in time of need."
This first memorial meal (verse fourteen) was grounded in the loss of blood by a lamb. Sprinkled on the doorposts of the houses of the people of Israel, God would passover them and favor them with life.
Our memorial meal is grounded in the loss of blood by a precious lamb as well, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His splattered blood on the doorposts of our hearts lets him know that we are his.
Each day is the first day of our lives. As we clean up and dress up, so do we put on our faith and register this day the Lord's.
