A certain farmer prospered and purchased additional land. Those were "boom" times and, with his increased acreage and hard work, his family became even more prosperous. They had a fine home, several good cars, and life seemed to smile upon them. Then, tragedy struck. Within two years, both of the man's sons, with whom he farmed and who were the pride of his life, were killed in separate accidents.
Following the second funeral, the pastor went to visit the man, trying to console him in his grief. There wasn't a whole lot the pastor could say and the two sat in silence for a while. Then the bereaved man uttered words that showed the pastor just how far he was from any form of consolation: "I'd give $100,000 to have my sons back." "... a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
