In Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, he tells about two prisoners on route to the guillotine; one a man, another a younger girl. Having observed his faith by his composure in prison, the girl asked of the man, "If I may ride with you, will you let me hold your hand? I am not afraid, but I am very small, and you will give me courage ... I think you were sent to me by heaven."
