As children, my brothers and I each had our own section of ground in our family's vegetable garden. One of the sections was located near the raspberry bushes. The vegetables planted in this section were in danger of being choked out by the roots of the raspberry canes. A second section was located on a slight rise in the center of our family garden. It received the full effect of the afternoon sun and as a result it tended to dry out quickly. When this happened, the plants withered and died. The third section of garden was located in an area that received the morning and part of the afternoon sun. The plants in this section of the garden seemed to be the healthiest and they bore the best crop. Naturally we all wanted to plant our vegetables in this third section of the garden. It took our Father to work things out so that we were all satisfied.
