The Christian faith is embodied...
Illustration
The Christian faith is embodied in three faces: the Creator, the Christ, and the Christian. First, the Christian faith is embodied in the shining face of the Creator. That's why ancient Jewish priests in the Jerusalem temple daily blessed the people, saying, "The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you" (Numbers 6:25, NEB). the word 'face' is used here as a symbol for God's presence (see Psalm 4:6; 31:16; 67:1). Secondly, the Christian faith is embodied in the shining face of Christ. For Christians, Christ is the human face of God. That's why one early Christian wrote about "the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6, TEV). As Christ said, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (John 14:6, TEV). Thirdly, the Christian faith is embodied in the shining face of the Christian. This resemblance to Christ is not a human achievement; it is the result of God's Spirit gradually transforming us. As we contemplate the glory of the Lord, seen most vividly in his cross, "the faces of all of us reflect the glory of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
