A Christian family was once traveling by airplane. On their return trip from Florida, the mother sat in a row of seats with two young ladies. During the flight, she could not help but overhear their conversation. Both were on their way to a family funeral in Michigan. Tragedy had come to their extended family the second time in a two-week period. As they discussed the tragic deaths, one young lady said to the other: "I don't know why God is doing this to our family." Upon hearing this statement, the woman who thought she could never talk about her faith or witness to others found herself saying, "Excuse me. I couldn't help but overhear what you have just said. I want you to know that the God I have come to know in Jesus Christ is not the originator or sender of tragedies. He offers and blesses us with his loving forgiveness so that in all circumstances of life we may sense his presence and be sustained by his love." For the next two hours, the trio talked about suffering, tragedy, the Cross, and the gift of salvation in Christ which calls us to repentance and newness of life. One never knows when or where an opportunity to witness will present itself. -- Reisen
