The circus came to town...

The circus came to town, and Clem could not resist the call of the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd. He didn't know what he could do in the circus, but he knew he had sawdust in his veins, and that gave him an idea. He approached the ringmaster and asked for a job. "What can you do?" the ringmaster asked. Clem said, "Well, I climb a hundred-foot tower in just my tights and dive off into a barrel of sawdust and come up smiling." The ringmaster said, "Sensational! We'll set it up and you can audition at noon tomorrow. At noon the next day Clem appeared at the big top in his tights, climbed the hundred-foot tower, and executed a beautiful swan dive into the barrel. The hoops gave way, staves splintered, and sawdust filled the air. When the sawdust began to clear, Clem staggered up with a sickly smile on his face. The ringmaster said, "Great! We have to have your act! Name your price -- a hundred, two hundred, five hundred a performance!" Clem said, "I don't think it'll be enough." The ringmaster said, "Why, what's the matter?" Clem said, "Well, it's the first time I've ever done this and I don't think I'm going to like it." -- Mosley
