In the Civil War battle...

In the Civil War battle of Gettysburg Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was the Union Commander assigned to hold the extreme left flank of the entire Union line. All day long under fierce Confederate attack the line held. During one such attack a hole appeared in the line and Colonel Chamberlain ordered his brother to fill the gap that had appeared. The line held. That one man and countless others like him were willing to risk their lives and sacrifice them if necessary to hold the Union together. Chamberlain's brother survived that battle but many others on both sides did not. It was a tough decision but Colonel Chamberlain was willing to risk his own brother to save the rest of the line. It should also be noted that his brother went willingly into the gap in the line. So it is with Christ: the line holds between us and sin because God not only sent his son into the breach between us and sin but his son also went willingly into that breach. -- Watson
