At the close of a semester in a large midwestern university, a certain professor walked into the university testing office and ordered a whole battery of teaching aptitude tests for himself. When the clerk asked why he was doing this, he replied, "I just want to see if it is them or me!"
That may be something akin to Jeremiah's feeling -- compelled to utter prophecy, yet appearing to be so out of touch as to become a laughing stock. It would have been easy to give up. Yet, he continued to be compelled to speak; his commitment was resolute.
I'm sure when his position was vindicated, Jeremiah took no great delight in saying: "I told you so." His joy was internal as he found fulfillment in the cause for which he suffered long. "Praise the Lord!"
