A close friend and physician...

A close friend and physician confessed to the problems he incurs with speeding tickets. An Ob-Gyn who must hurry to the hospital for late night deliveries, he has been repeatedly ticketed for traveling high speeds down the freeway. One night as he drove back to the hospital, exhausted, for a delivery, he noticed the flashing red lights in his rear mirror. Knowing that one more ticket would mean the suspension of his license, he was woefully afraid.
"Dr. Morton," said the officer walking toward the car, "I'm stopping you not because you were speeding, but because I noticed you swerve over the white lines several times. I know you're tired and just wanted to see if you are okay. I'm not going to hold you. I just want you to be safe. Do you need help getting to the hospital?" "No, officer, I'll be fine. And thank you," said my friend. Instead of judgment, my friend received kindness and understanding. When a traffic ticket would have been highly justified, he received mercy. Isn't God just that way? Instead of citations we receive petitions. Instead of condemnation we are given an opportunity to redeem ourselves because God wants us to be safe.
