A couple had been married...

A couple had been married ten years and desperately wanted children, but had none. Both had been under doctor's care and had taken many tests to determine why a pregnancy would not occur. Eventually she conceived and both were simply ecstatic.
The husband was attentively at his wife's side all through the labor and delivery of their beautiful little girl. When the child was born, perfectly sound and healthy, he literally skipped down the hospital hallway telling everyone he met: "I've seen a miracle. I've seen a miracle."
Abram states, in this reading, he knows he possesses many gifts from God but he lacks the one gift he desperately wants --his own child. The miracle-working Lord, who generously bestows his blessings to those who have faith, calms Abram's mind with a promise of his own baby. Eventually he had Ishmael, then Isaac, and many others.
New births are occurring in every community every day and, since each is a miracle, we have indisputable reasons for a tremendous faith in the life-giving Lord.
There are numerous "blessed events" in our lives and we need to be thankful for them. On a bright spring night we might try to count the stars, like Abram did, and realize, with him, that our God-sent favors are even more numerous.
