In Dakota, Kathleen Norris tells about an experience at a monastery that she visited. After she had been introduced to all of the monks who lived there, her guide said to her, "Now I want you to meet the rest of our community." Norris was a bit puzzled when he said that, because she thought that she had just met everyone. But her guide directed her outside through a door and led her to a monastery's cemetery. There the guide proceeded to take her around to all the tombstones and told her stories about each and every monk who was buried there. Those in the cemetery certainly are still a part of our community, the communion of saints.
