Since Dave, Frank and Mike...

Since Dave, Frank and Mike enjoyed building model cars and the sport of racing, the three young boys decided to form a model racing club patterned after the famous Soap Box Derby. A major event of the club would feature the three of them racing their favorite models on Memorial Day while listening to the Indy 500 on the radio. Unfortunately, Frank had a tendency toward bending the rules or simply changing them to fit his purposes. Also, his unquenchable need to win occasionally brought on a note of arrogance which was a point of contention with the other two. In fact, in some of the races leading up to the big Memorial Day event, Frank had purposely used his car to force the others off the track, gloating all the while that his car was unbeatable. Well, during the big race, Mike saw a window of opportunity and jumped through it. He positioned his car on the starting ramp so as to force Frank's car off the track. With Frank and Mike's entries off to the side, the track was left wide open for his brother Dave's car to win the race. Ever since that victorious moment years ago, the arrival of Memorial Day brings a smile to David's face as he remembers his brother's sacrificial act. -- Thompson
