The director told her this morning that he would be unable to attend the board meeting that evening. She would have to go in his place. She could not believe it. She had never attended a board meeting, but she had heard how demanding the members were and the series of questions they raised about everything the organization was doing or not doing. She was concerned about her ability to handle the situation. The director briefed her thoroughly and was convinced that she would be fine. The meeting went off without a hitch! She returned to work the next day and informed the director of all that had happened. She told him that she had been amazed at how well the board members had received her and how intently they had listened to her report. She even felt confident in her responses to their questions. The director was not surprised to hear her feedback of the meeting. -- Lynch
