Discipline is not always well...

Discipline is not always well regarded today. One might recall some of the instances in the Vietnam war. Some of our soldiers disobeyed orders and followed their own wills, bringing bad consequences. On the other hand, we can recall how the soldiers of Germany burned and gassed out Jews while following orders. Nuremburg had to sort our whether a soldier had a moral responsibility to disobey evil orders. Discipline has to do with following orders, but it also has to do with trusting the leader.
When the Roman centurion learned about Jesus, he had no difficulty accepting him as Lord. The centurion accepted the authority of Jesus so much he felt it was only necessary for Jesus to speak and the servant would be well; a visit was not even necessary. The centurion did not have an authority problem; he was used to discipline.
Spiritual discipline is necessary if you are to remain a Christian. It is easy to become a Christian. It is harder to remain one. A Christian soldier is one who respects the authority of the Christ and knows he only need speak to be followed. Jesus Christ is a trustworthy leader. All we need to do is simply trust and obey, then our own healing will be permanent.
