Dr. Mouzon Biggs, pastor of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, tells that when he was a child, his mother would whisper in his ear as she put him to bed, "You're a special child. I think God must have sent you to do something special. I hope you find out what it is."
The minister continued, "I didn't know until years later that she was whispering the same thing to my sister and my little brother." As he told his congregation this story, he also said, "Every child needs to hear that, and if the child doesn't hear it from his or her own parents, then God sent us to speak that word. Every child is special, every person is special, and God has something for every one of us to do no matter who we are."
Jesse did not feel that there was anything special about his son, David, especially since he was so young. However, God felt that he was special and he had a special task for him to perform. We all need to allow God to speak to us, and tell us that we are important in his kingdom, and permit him to reveal our special task to us.
