During his imprisonment in a Nazi concentration camp, Viktor Frankl tells about the lifelessness of the camp. In the drabness of the gray dawn, he was struggling for sanity. Then he saw a small light in a distant farmhouse. He then remembered his wife. He sensed deeply her presence, her touch, her hand in his. "Then, at that very moment, a bird flew down silently and perched just in front of me, on the heap of soil which I had dug up from the ditch, and looked steadily at me."
