During the primary elections in 1992, two candidates for the Arizona state legislature ended up in a tie. So that pair of Republicans decided to allow cards to decide the matter, one game of five-card stud poker. Said the one candidate: "Considering this is the Old West, we figured there were only two reasonable ways to do this. That's pistols or cards." Events like that, when combined with the countless scandals that are reported each year, often cause us to wonder how much respect we should hold for our government officials. But this passage is one that reminds us of our duty to uphold our government leaders through our prayers. -- Bowen
