During vacation Bible school, the young people have a great time with the song "Father Abraham." As they sing about Abraham's offspring, they get to put the whole song to motion.
Thinking about that song reminds us that Abraham is the one who helped put God's plan in motion. At an age when all of his peers were either dead or retired, Abraham set off for the unknown because God called him to go. We have to wonder about all the things that went through Abraham's mind when God called. Did Abraham think, "He's calling the wrong guy? I'm too old. It's not my job. Let somebody younger do it! What's in it for me?"
Perhaps some of those questions did cross Abraham's mind. What we do know is that he ultimately chose to follow and obey God. Because of his obedience, the world has been eternally blessed.
