E. Stanley Jones, the Methodist...

E. Stanley Jones, the Methodist missionary, pointed out that "whatever gets your attention, gets you." Further, he said, "if you give your attention to negative things and glance at Christ, the negative things will get you. If, on the other hand, you give your attention to Christ and glance at the negative things, Christ will get you."
Saint Paul urges us to focus on the good things of God. We will be pulled by these good things into the focus of Christ. Thus we will be drawn into Christ-likeness, especially if we focus on the crucified Christ.
From whence do we get joy (4:4)? From whence do we receive the peace of God (4:7)? From whence comes contentment to be both abased on the one hand or on the other hand, to abound (4:11-12)?
It's all in what gets our attention. Give your attention to Christ and joy, peace and contentment come.
