Each afternoon the youth lined up at the bus to go to the city to swim in the public pool. After the morning classes at the summer conference, they were ready to relax and have a great time. But two Black girls didn't line up at the bus because they had been told ahead of time that Blacks were not welcome at that city pool. They just stayed in their rooms and waited until their Christian friends returned. One on the bus became aware of their absence, and she inquired about it. Her leader told her that it was city policy for Blacks not to be welcomed in the pool, and the conference leaders opposed that position but they couldn't do anything about it. This girl said, "I can do something about it. I won't go swimming myself, if they can't go."
