In an earlier generation, a church was decidedly short on funds. A gentleman came to
help and in the absence of the famous preacher, John McNeil, the benefactor left a signed
blank check with the instructions that the pastor should fill in any amount. The pastor
John didn't think he should ask for too much, so he made out the check for one-half of the
total amount needed. And that was a large amount. Fortunately, the benefactor's faith was
much greater than that of the pastor. He returned to check out the restoration and found
out that the need remained. Having love and a generous heart, the donor rewrote the
check for the total amount needed. His faith was much greater than that of the
pastor.
The truth is that God has in store great abundance far beyond what we can ask or think.
Dr. Bruce Wilkinson has written books reminding us that God has vast treasurers in store for us. He bases his writing on the prayer of Jabez told about in 1 Chronicles 4:10. This can be seen as a financial blessing but much more of a blessing when it is applied spiritually. We have, as it were, a blank check signed by God and he wants to give us blessings from his treasury of blessings.
