Elie Wiesel tells the story...

Elie Wiesel tells the story of a prophet who came to a city and set up shop each day in the center of the marketplace, where he delivered his message. He had little success. Before long, he had become a fixture in the marketplace, and passersby ignored his message.
A small boy, pitying the prophet, came up to him one day and asked, "Sir, why do you keep crying aloud like this every day, year after year? The people here will never listen to you."
He replied, "I gave up hope long ago that these hard-hearted people would listen to me. I go on preaching lest I begin listening to them."
