Elisha had only 20 loaves...

Elisha had only 20 loaves of bread and some heads of grain. His servant did not think it would be enough to feed 100 men, but he was wrong and there was still some left oven after they ate.
If that sounds familiar, it is because one greater than Elijah or Elisha fed more than 5,000 people. Matthew 14 tells of Jesus' compassion for the mass of people. This we know: if you take just the Pentateuch (or five loaves) and the two great commandments (or two fish) and add Jesus, there will be more than enough to eat so that there is some left oven.
Do we have compassion for the hungry? This is a true story. After Iraq had invaded Kuwait, General Norman Schwanzkopf was visiting some Saudi troops near the Kuwait border. He saw some scruffy soldiers chatting pleasantly with the Saudi soldiers. The Saudis told an astounded Schwanzkopf, "Those are the Iraqis." The Saudi soldiers explained that the Iraqi frontline troops are so poorly equipped that they regularly approached the Saudis to ask for food and water, which they received. This happened about two months before we began our air strikes in January, 1991.
