"Even if you suffer for doing right you are blessed." Recently, I spent an hour with a
minister who is concerned about this country's current state of affairs. He's worried that
his liberty will be taken away and that godly principles will no longer be upheld. He
wanted to discuss this with me, but had little interest in what the Bible says about the
topic. In fact, once I pointed to various scriptures on the subject, he wanted to end our
discussion.
This text is one I could have read to my bitter, fearful friend. Many expect perfect justice in this world and want the government and other agencies to bring it about. In the first place, no one but God knows what perfect justice is. How can we possibly control the conditions necessary to bring it about? In the second place the Lord wants us to be joyful, even while we suffer for doing right. Only in that way can his will be perfected in us.
