Even weekend gardeners appreciate the role of spring and summer rains in the growth of flowers and vegetables, let alone the men and women who populate the farms of our land. In the absence of moisture, cracks develop in the soil and those cracks almost seem like the mouth of nature opening itself to hoped-for rain.
When that dryness is finally addressed by a night long gentle rain, the transformation is dramatic. Green becomes greener and the flowers and vegetables continue their trek toward fruition with what almost appears to be a new start.
What a tremendous way to understand and anticipate God's ways with us. Following the "dark night of the soul" or a time of spiritual dryness, "he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth."
