Every conscientious host dreads it...

Every conscientious host dreads it happening. What could be worse than running out of
food or drink? It nearly happened to us once when my wife and I were first married. We
invited some fellow college classmates for Thanksgiving dinner. We couldn't afford
turkey; a slender chicken had to suffice. As we pulled it from the oven to check it, the
bird fell to the floor. After making sure our friends weren't watching from the other room,
we lifted our willowy fowl, brushed the kitchen floor dirt from it, and baked it a little
more. No one got sick, but we'd been embarrassed had we not served at least one bird that
day.
Often we didn't know where to find our next meal, but the Lord always provided an "unexpected" check in the mail or some other near-miraculous means. Sometimes his provisions were almost miraculous. The Lord feeds us and our guests better now. But we continue to be amazed as we experience about the Lord what the master of the banquet commented to the bridegroom: "You have saved the best till now."
