Every once in a while...

Every once in a while, someone of note says something that completely baffles most
people. One of my earliest realizations of this was when a few people began to deny that
Neil Armstrong had walked on the moon. They said it was a trick performed by the
United States government to put fear in the hearts of the Russians and to raise the morale
of the American people. I thought about how I had tried to imagine the feelings of the
crew after they had successfully opened a new world of exploration.
Others have denied that Columbus actually landed in the Americas and others that a single man, Lindberg, could fly from one continent to another continent.
A couple of years ago, a group of people denied the holocaust, saying that it was just a publicity stunt to gain sympathy for the Jews.
In the day of Jesus, men denied God had sent him because they knew that he had earthly parents and brothers and sisters. They could not see what he taught or what he did but rather resigned themselves to their eyes and their own limited knowledge. It is a habit we have as humans that it is hard to believe anything outside of our own personal experience.
