Every so often, ministers will get an official looking manila envelope in the mail from an attorney's office. This usually means that the church has been remembered in a will. Quite frequently, the deceased will have some specific requests about the way the money should be used. My church recently received a very generous sum that was to be used "for the maintenance of the building or the purchase of additional property." I suppose this is a common occurrence. There was, however, a unique addendum to the bequest. The deceased stipulated that "the church should speak to my son before making any expenditures, as he knows my wishes in this regard."
Our generous benefactor wished to speak through his son, just as God speaks through his Son -- Jesus Christ.
