Everyone liked Abe and he liked everyone he met. At the retirement home, the staff, as
well as the residents, enjoyed spending time with him. He was like a magnet always
drawing people to him. People who worked with him many years before, remained in
contact with him. After he retired, he volunteered delivering meals to elderly people in
the community. And he loved his church.
What people remember most about him was his faith in Jesus Christ and his positive attitude. Even his terminal illness, that would claim his life in less than a year, never hampered his spirits. People from church would visit him and come back amazed at this man's faith. He told everyone that he knew where he was going, that he would be with the Lord in heaven.
Abe's funeral service was a true celebration of his life. People shared stories about this remarkable, yet ordinary, man whose life and death had touched them profoundly.
Today we remember and give thanks to God for those individuals who have touched and impacted our lives, especially those who point the way to Jesus. The prophet Isaiah longed for that day when God, "will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces...." One day we, too, shall be with the Lord in heaven!
