At first glance, this little sermon to Cornelius sounds like a balance of scales. In the olden days, scales were used to balance a bargain. It was not always a matter of pound for pound or ounce for ounce. What two persons agreed upon became the contract. The Jews were familiar with this commercial way of thinking and acting. Thus, Peter's balance, between a man's fear of the Lord and righteous behavior, seems, central to this sermon.
Upon closer scrutiny we find the scales need to be balanced for sure. But the point is, the scales need to be balanced in every country of the world, in every city of the world, and in the heart of every person who believes in Jesus Christ. God does not practice partiality. Non-partiality must be the witness of the people of God to all the corners of the world.
Thus was the Gospel Peace inaugurated into all the world.
