Former Congresswoman Marguerite Church tells of seeing the beautiful white steeple of a church between the trees as she was driving through Pennsylvania sometime ago. She was so impressed with the steeple that she drove out of her way to see the entire church building.
Mrs. Church was shocked when she reached the church, for there on the door was a sign which read: "For Sale, Cheap." She later said, "I've never forgotten the impact of those words on me, and I've carried it with me many years. I've carried it with me as a warning that none of those values I hold so high must ever with my knowledge be sold cheap."
The Jewish people celebrate the Passover as an everlasting reminder of the sacrifice of their forefathers, and the special relationship they had with God as he delivered them from the bondage of Egypt. As we partake of holy communion, let us always be aware of the sacrifice of leaders of the Christian church in the past. The church was bought with the blood of our Savior and the blood of martyrs and saints through the ages. Let us not sell them out cheap.
