A friend of mine recently...

A friend of mine recently told me about a visit she had received from her relative who was a minister. When he entered her home, he naturally passed through her kitchen, dining room, and living room on his way to the family room to see her children. My friend was following him during his brief trek, talking as they made their way to the family room.
The minister suddenly came to an abrupt stop and said to my friend, "You know, you really ought to have something of Jesus in every room of your home!"
She told me that her first response was to ask herself, "What have I got of Jesus in this room?"
The incident really made me think, and I remember being asked, upon several occasions, to bless new homes of some of my parishioners. Other families dedicated their own homes, farms, or businesses to the Lord. These simple, sincere services have always been special to me because those who participated in them could feel the Lord's presence.
Things don't summon the presence of Jesus Christ; the warm atmosphere of Christian faith and love brings his presence near. Wherever Jesus lives in the human heart, there will be his abiding presence.
At the center of our lives, as well as at the center of our faith, stands Jesus Christ whose life and death and resurrection bring meaning to our lives. Because he lives, we will live also and share in his glorious inheritance.
Hearts, not things, remember.
