A gag often used by the Smothers Brothers was, "Mother always did like you best." A young girl came to see her pastor because she was convinced that her parents played favorites. Her brother could do as he pleased and he was never given chores to do, while her parents were very strict with her and made her help out around the house. A man once complained to his pastor that his boss gave him all the dirty work to do, and when the time came for a promotion the boss always recommended someone else. Life isn't fair. But does God play favorites? It does appear so. We all know of individuals who always get the best of everything and we can't understand why. This is a problem that people have struggled with for years. The question is easy to ask, "Does God play favorites?" but difficult to answer. As a matter of fact, it is a question that can only be answered by God. But could it be that maybe we are asking the wrong question? Instead of asking, "Why doesn't God do certain things for me?" we should ask, "What can I do for God?" or "How can I help others?" Perhaps in giving we will find the blessings we are so badly seeking. -- Frank
