God is offering to all...

God is offering to all humanity the opportunity to participate in the great joy, or feast, of eternal life. Unfortunately, while some accept the invitation, others turn down the opportunity to receive salvation through Jesus Christ. Thus, they who could be welcome to the great heavenly feast, have their places taken by others, instead. A century or more ago there was a famous patent lawyer in America named George Harding. He had some friends but he was heard to lament that he had missed the opportunity to have two who were extremely outstanding, due to his inhospitality. On one occasion he was in Cincinnati on the famous McCormick Reaper case. There was a battery of lawyers, besides Mr. Harding, representing the McCormick Company. Among them was a gawky, country lawyer who was quite a contrast to the other distinguished attorneys with whom he sat. Because of his appearance, Mr. Harding simply ignored him. But that lawyer whom he ignored was Abraham Lincoln. Some years later, Mr. Harding went to New York. The hotels were very crowded and a man whom Mr. Harding had met casually asked if he might share Mr. Harding's room. But the request was refused. This time the man was Grover Cleveland, who later, like Lincoln, was elected President of the United States. Thus, because of his inhospitality, Mr. Harding deprived himself of the opportunity to number two presidents of our country among his friends. Christ invites us to join the fellowship of his friends and receive eternal life. How foolish if we reject the invitation. -- Lentz
